Miriam A. Hyman: From Actress to Hip Hop MC!

Miriam A. Hyman, 2011 Princess Grace Award winner, lives a double life—as a classically trained actress and as the hip-hop MC Robyn Hood. Robyn Hood’s EP, For Higher, was released on December 8 on iTunes, Spotify, and Google Music.

This past fall, Miriam served as the rap consultant for Manhattan Theatre Club’s production of Vietgone and wrote the lyrics for Academy Award winner (and her pal from the Yale School of Drama) Lupita Nyong’o’s viral rap video, “Mexican Born.” This caps off a busy year for Miriam—she won a Leonore Annenberg Fellowship, and collaborated with fellow Award winners costume designer Paul Tazewell and actor Owiso Odera on the McCarter Theater Center’s production of The Piano Lesson and director Evan Yionoulis on Cymbeline at Yale Repertory Theatre. Topping it off, Miriam has just nominated by BroadwayWorld New Jersey for Best Actress in a Play for her performance as Berniece in The Piano Lesson!
