BOBBY ABATE (Brooklyn, NY) is a Queer artist, filmmaker, and editor whose films have been exhibited around the globe at venues such as the New York Film FestivalInternational Film Festival RotterdamMuseum of Modern Art New YorkGuggenheim Bilbao, and the San Francisco Cinematheque. They have received the Princess Grace Award and were named one of the Top 25 Emerging Filmmakers for the 21st Century by Film Comment. Bobby holds a master’s in filmmaking from Bard College and a certificate in screenwriting from the Binger Institute in Amsterdam. Most recently, Bobby was the recipient of the DVAA Fellowship (2023) and the Leighton International Artist Exchange Grant (2024), and has participated in artist residencies at the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council on Governors Island (2023), Virginia Center for Creative Arts (2024), and the Constance Saltonstall Foundation of the Arts (2024). A member of the Television Academy, Bobby served as editor for seasons 3 and 4 of the Queer docuseries We’re Here on HBO, which recently won a Peabody Award. Bobby is set to direct a short film inspired by their own coming out story in 1992 during the height of the AIDS crisis, produced by Todd Stephens (Swan SongEdge of 17) and cast by Eve Battaglia (TransamericaDr. Marston and the Wonder Woman).
