Modesto Flako Jimenez is a Dominican-born, Bushwick-raised artist and educator. 2015 HOLA Best Ensemble Award Winner. ATI Best Actor Award Winner 2016. HOLA Outstanding Solo Performer 2017, NY Times and Wall Street Journal profiled. In 2014 he founded “Shake on the Block” a Shakespeare workshop for teens and he has been teaching theater/poetry in NYC Public Schools for eight years. He has toured internationally and appeared on TEDxBushwick, Early Shaker Spirituals (Wooster Group), Richard Maxwell’s Samara (Soho Rep.), Kaneza Schaal’s Jack &. (BAM/On The Boards) and Victor Morales Esperpento (Sundance). He has received the 2016 Princess Grace Award Honorarium in Theater. In 2018 he became the first Dominican-American Lead Artist in The Public Theater UTR Festival with his show Oye For My Dear Brooklyn. His ambition is to continue acting, producing, writing, and directing with the Oye Group production company that serves to enlighten its audience with thought-provoking material.
