Melanie Rosete is a young, eager and driven filmmaker who is determined to tell cinematic stories, whether that be narrative or documentary, that center around characters not often seen in a media through a positive lens. She believes art is one of the most powerful tools able to shift perspectives, celebrate memories, reflect on experiences, and push empathy. In Melanie’s most recent film “Princesa”, she shares her pride of her family and culture, while also positively showing a Mexican immigrant family in a difficult political climate. She is the recipient of the Elayne R. Rubinoff Award, for her strides as a female filmmaker and her aspirations for her next film, “Mima” a documentary about reconnecting with her estranged grandmother and the effects it has on her family.
