Jared Hall was born in Jamaica and came to the United States to study Illustration at the Rhode Island School of Design. He recently completed an MFA in Experimental Animation at the California Institute of the Arts.
His directorial debut, Anansi the Spider, adapts the popular Jamaican folktale, wherein a cunning trickster must outsmart the jungle’s fiercest predators. The film won multiple awards across the world, including Best Animated Short and Outstanding Cast Performance. It has been screened at many festivals, including the FistUp Film Festival and Slamdance.
His latest project has been his thesis film, The Blue Hole. This film also takes some inspiration from Caribbean folklore and imagines a world that blends outer space with the deep ocean
