Jonathan King was born in Southeastern Ohio to a long line of coalminers and storytellers. King’s films draw on that background to center the lives and labor of underrepresented peoples, from environmental justice (Race to the Bottom, 2009) to disability (Real Violence, 2013). His current nonfiction project, With Grace, is a creative exploration of seminal performer and artist Grace Zabriskie, supported by the Princess Grace Special Projects Fund. He is a first-generation college graduate, earning his B.A. from San Francisco State University in 2009 and later his M.F.A in Directing from UCLA. His MFA thesis Marie earned the 2013 Princess Grace Film Honorarium, and other honors include the Jacob K. Javits Fellowship, the Edie and Lew Wasserman Film Production Fellowship, and the Jack Nicholson Distinguished Director Award.
