Maleek Rae (they/them) is a multidisciplinary artist and chain breaker from Detroit’s Eastside, with notable theatre credits including Ghetto Alchemy: A Lunchroom Survival Guide (The Tank), Mushroom Kingdom (Ars Nova), and Detroit 67′ (DPT), along with film work on Law & Order: SVU & Organized Crime (NBC), HBO’s Random Acts of Flyness, and The Best Man: The Final Chapters (Peacock). As a playwright, they have written Ceremonies for Alligator Bait or Guttah and Love Birds: or how to fix a broken heart in a day. A recipient of the NYSAF 2025 Founders Award, Maleek has been an artist-in-residence or fellow at institutions such as JACK, The Cell, Target Margin Theatre, The Laundromat Project, and Brooklyn Art Exchange. Their music is available on all streaming platforms.
