Mary Prescott is a Thai-American interdisciplinary artist, composer and performer who explores the foundations and facets of identity and social conditions through experiential performance. She works across music, theater, movement, word, film, food and social practice, aiming to foster understanding and create pathways for change by voicing emotional and human truths through artistic investigation and dissemination.
Prescott’s output includes several large-scale interdisciplinary performances, improvised music, opera, sound journaling, solo and chamber concert works, and documentary film. Featured in “21 for ‘21: Composers and Performers Who Sound Like Tomorrow,” The Washington Post describes her work as “a bright light cast forward… uncompromising,” and “masterfully envisioned.”
Prescott is an awardee of the McKnight Composer Fellowship, Princess Grace Award in Theater, Jerome Hill Artist Fellowship in Music, National Performance Network Creation and Development Fund, American Composers Forum Create Commission and many more. She has been commissioned by LA Phil, Public Functionary, The Great Northern Festival, Roulette Intermedium, White Snake Projects, The American Opera Project, Living Arts of Tulsa and others. Her residencies include Bogliasco, Camargo, Loghaven, VCCA and Lanesboro Arts.
Prescott currently sits on the board of the National Performance Network, and further invests in strengthening the artist community through her involvement with Artists U and Sanguine Arts.
