Nesaru Tchaas is an emerging filmmaker based in New York City who believes that art and cinema have the capacity to change perception. He has taught film to lower-caste youth in the Himalayas and served as a translator in the slums of Ahmedabad. A multiracial/Black director who grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area, his future films will explore the particular existential predicament of blackness, the ecstatic quality of being a person of color in the world, the diversity of human life within poverty, the range of meanings that people ascribe to their outsider status.  Nesaru is a 2021 recipient of the Sundance Uprise Grant.
